Chapter 3- what are my binge foods?

Make a list of those foods you eat on a regular basis. If you need to, refer to the food log on page 5.

Right now: Tuna and veggies.I tend to eat the same kind of food, and nothing else, for 3-4 weeks, then I switch, as I by then usually gets sick of just thinking about the kind of food I've been living on untill then. Last month, it was boiled ham.The next food I'll get hooked on is probably cottage cheese. It goes in cycles, I had a cottage cheese month about half a year ago. Believe me or not, I like the monotony, and (and this is actually scientifically proven), the higher number of different kinds of food people have available, the more they eat- haven't we all, at least once, eaten too much when tempted with an amazing buffet in a restaurant? Everything I include in my planned diet have a few things in common: They're low carb, usually low fat, and low in calories pr. 100 grams.(the Camembert is a bit too high in both fat and calories, but I just eat smaller amounts to make up for it).

Then we have the foods I binge on- which means that I usually eat (a lot!) of at least a few of the foods at least once a month (though I've managed to not binge for months before), and, if I'm in a really bad place emotionally, maybe as much as 10 times in one month: Pasta, pizza, candy, potato chips, rice, brownies- all refined carbs, really.

From the list above, write down those foods that you regularly overeat.

Pasta, pizza, candy, potato chips, rice- all refined carbs, really.

Now list foods about which you think and/or fantasize. (You may not necessarily eat these foods regularly.)

Again: Pasta, pizza, candy, potato chips, rice- all refined carbs, really. And sushi!

What foods do you think you couldn't possibly live without? Why?

Well, these foods may not be essential for me to survive, but they certainly make my dieting easier: Salmon, cod, cottage cheese, lean red meat, grana padano cheese, brie, camembert low carb bread, low fat cream cheese, chicken. Because they are low carb, mostly low fat (if they are higher in fat, like brie, I eat only small amounts), and taste good, but not so good that I'm tempted to overeat them.

Write down those foods that have special meaning in your life. Think about those foods you use to celebrate special events or holidays, you use to console yourself, or you cook for others.

Once again: Pasta, pizza, candy (especially marzipan), potato chips, rice, sushi.

At least some, probably a lot, of the foods written above are your binge foods. How does this feel?

I feel like a glutton. I am a glutton. I'm disgusted by my taste in food. It's so...white trash. I'm a snob, but obviously not when it comes to binge foods...
